What is ARPL?

Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning is a process whereby people’s prior learning can be formally recognized in terms of registered qualifications and unit standards, regardless of where and how the learning was attained. RPL acknowledges that people never stop learning, whether it takes place formally at an educational institution, or whether it happens informally. ARPL is to provide an active pathway to full artisan trade qualification/ occupational trade qualification in all sectors of the economy.

Requirements

ARPL candidates are required to have three (3) years relevant work experience and at be least 19 years of age. The Administration Head will ensure final verification where the administrators have queries with documentation to verify documentation:

• Certified copy of ID document
  
• Curriculum Vitae
  
• Letter of employment/ Affidavit indicating trade applying for and duties performed in the trade/ The minimum years of work experience may be accumulated from various traceable employers or services provided to customers in the relevant trade
  
• Any qualifications and training attended as indicated in the CV. Formal qualifications is not a requirement.

Applications are done on a daily basis from 8:00 to 14:30

Application process:

Prospective ARPL candidates apply at an accredited Trade Test Centre, accredited for the trade which is being applied for, to undergo an ARPL process. At application, the prospective candidate completes a standard application form. The application form must be completed electronically and manually. At application, the candidate will be assessed for compliance against the criteria and guidelines for the implementation of ARPL. Where the candidate does not comply, he/she must be informed of the reasons for non -compliance and what is needed to meet the requirements. Where a candidate complies, he/she will be assisted with the completion of the PoE.
Candidates must bring a CV and supporting documents with when applying for ARPL in order to complete a PoE
